The Fairfield Warde girls basketball team opened its season Wednesday with a 57-33 home loss to Danbury.

The Hatters led by 10 at the half, then opened the third quarter with a 16-0 run to open up a 38-12 lead. Warde guard Taylor Bargmann ended the Danbury run when she got a steal and layup with 10 seconds left in the quarter.

The Mustangs' offense was led by two players who came off the bench. Junior guard Jamera Fountain scored 13 points, including three 3-point field goals. Her sister, freshman guard Tierra Fountain, scored eight points.

Casey Smith led Danbury with 18 points. Rabin Rawji added 13 points, and freshman point guard Rachel Gartner had 12.
