The National PTA has declared May 6 to 10 Teacher Appreciation Week, and a Fairfield foundation has a way for students and parents to thank specific public-school teachers and at the same time donate to scholarships for local graduating seniors.
The High School Scholarship Foundation of Fairfield said students and parents can make donations in honor of their favorite teachers, and the foundation will notify the teachers.
The minimum donation is $10, and proceeds benefit the nonprofit foundation, which awards scholarships to seniors graduating from Fairfield Ludlowe and Fairfield Warde high schools.
The grants are awarded in recognition of various accomplishments, including academic excellence, music, art, athletics, community service and others, the foundation said.
Donations for recognition of specific Fairfield public school teachers may be made by mail or online at the foundation's website.
To donate by mail, checks should be payable to "HSSFF," and the teacher's name and school should be written in the memo field. Checks should be mailed to: HSSFF Inc., P.O. Box 682, Fairfield, CT 06824.
Donations may be made online at www.fairfieldscholarshipfoundation.org/donate . Payment is via PayPal, and there is an area to name the teacher and school, the foundation said.
For teachers to be notified of donations during Teacher Appreciation Week, donations must be received no later than April 20, the foundation said.
