As in most of the places it plays, “Kinky Boots” has its repeat fans in south central Connecticut — who tip off the arrival of favorite characters with cheers or applause — at first glimpse.

The last time the touring show filled seats was at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven in the spring of 2016; this time the Harvey Fierstein-Cyndi Lauper musical offers three shows in a two-day run at Toyota Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford.

For the unititiated, “Kinky Boots” is a tuneful blast that won six Tony Awards in 2013, telling the inspired-by-true-events story of a gentleman’s shoe factory of working-class Northampton, England. Charlie Price, who is struggling to live up to his father’s expectations and wants out of the family business, runs into the spectacular Lola, a drag performer in need of sturdy stilettos, who becomes a catalyst for positive change.

The touring show is produced and overseen by the same creative team that does the Broadway show, and Oakdale presents a fitting venue since it’s well-suited to big music acts and seats close to 5,000.

Toyota Oakdale Theatre, 95 S Turnpike Road, Wallingford, Saturday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 19 at noon and 6 p.m., $165-$35, 800-745-3000.
