In a back and forth game, the Staples girls soccer team played host Fairfield Ludlowe to a 0-0 tie on Thursday. Staples is now 0-0-2 and Ludlowe moved its record to 1-0-1.

The Falcons controlled play in the early going with senior quad-captain Brooke Mackno having a golden opportunity to score,l only to be thwarted by Lady Wreckers junior goalie Jessie Ambrose (seven saves). Mackno led Ludlowe's offense with four shots and Falcon senior quad-captains Lucia Harold and Mary Kamovitch each had three. Staples senior tri-captain Kelly Bohling is its Secretary of Defense and broke up Ludlowe's scoring chances in the early going. Sophomore Siri Andrews, who is the Lady Wreckers' Secretary of Defense in waiting, also broke up plays for Staples.

After weathering the storm, the Lady Wreckers picked it up with senior tri-captain Jaclyn Katz firing a few shots off of breakaways, only to be stopped by Falcons senior quad-captain goalie Blakely Zecher (11 saves). Zecher also made saves junior Ali Crofts, who went in on a breakaway, and in the waning moments, on junior Ryan Kirshner. Crofts and Katz also hit the upper crossbar. Staples ended the game with a 19-13 shots advantage and Ludlowe had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
