Oxford wrestlers finish fourth in Class S

HIGGANUM -- Behind Steve Persson's 7-0 win in the 152-pound weight class, the Oxford wrestling team finished fourth at the Class S championships Saturday night at Haddam-Killingworth.
Oxford finished with 131 points. Windham won the title with 238.5 points.

Highlights: Derby had three wrestlers finish second: Josh Russell at 106 pounds (7-0 loss to Windham's Sebby Ruffino), Tyler Dobek at 120 pounds (6-0 loss to Terryville's Elliott Wilion) and Matt Nicolari at 170 pounds (3-1 loss to Windham's Devyn Petsa). Seymour's Dane Christiansen finished second at 132 pounds, dropping an 11-2 decision to Montville's Jake Caskey. Three Oxford wrestlers finished third: Janos Lobb at 132 pounds (a 10-6 win over Haddam-Killingworth's David Parmelee), Alex Mardis at 182 pounds (a 5-1 win over Plainville's Marcus Slivinski) and Dan Carbonaro at 285 pounds (a pin in 50 seconds over Haddam-Killingworth's Broden Wells). Derby's Seb Hernandez lost his third place match at 138 pounds, getting pinned in 4:03 by Haddam-Killingworth's Ryan Henderson and Oxford's Martin Simon also finished fourth, getting pinned in 1:31 by Haddam-Killingworth's Zachary Roth. Fifth place winners were Derby's Patrick Miko (113 pounds) and Seymour's Xavier Vidal (126) and Oxford's Andrew Temple finished sixth at 195 pounds.
