FAIRFIELD -- Dan Upchurch scored 36 points to lead the host Notre Dame of Fairfield boys basketball team to a 75-70 win over Kaynor Tech in the opening round of the SWC Tip-Off Tournament Thursday night.

Earl Coleman added 15 points and C.J. Davidson 13 for the winners, who will face Bunnell in Friday night's championship game at 7:30.

The Bulldogs rolled past Newtown 89-57 as Matt Nolting led five players in double figures with 25 points. He was followed by Isaac Vann (16), Adam Samuel (14), Devon Thompson (11) and Ryan Pittman (10).

Also, Stratford got 27 points from Bernard Brantley and 19 from Marcus Vereen to beat Hyde 64-45 in its season opener.
