Dr. Lawrence Muldoon, a urologist from Fairfield, received the St. Vincent de Paul Mission Award as St. Vincent's 2010 Physician of the Year in ceremonies held recently at Tashua Knolls in Trumbull before a gathering of physicians, administrators and guests. The award honors the attending physician who best demonstrates the qualities exemplified by Saint Vincent de Paul, one who truly lives the mission and values of the medical center, officials said.

"Larry Muldoon is a physician with remarkable compassion and dedication, a doctor's doctor," said St. Vincent President/CEO Susan L. Davis. "He is humble and everything he does is grounded in the highest ethical standards and integrity, but he also knows how to make you laugh. He has served the medical center well through his excellent patient care, board membership, and leadership of the Prostate Cancer Institute."

Dr. Muldoon was nominated for the award by physicians and staff members at St. Vincent's, who described him as "a true gentleman, kind, confident, soft spoken yet extremely effective, very well respected by his peers, who treats all patients with compassion and care and will come in on his off-time to see a patient that he is concerned about."

The nomination also highlighted Dr. Muldoon's warm, approachable manner, his sense of humor and his ability to bring people together.

Dr. Muldoon has volunteered much time to St. Vincent's SWIM Across the Sound Prostate Cancer Institute, assisting many men who would otherwise not have access to such prostate cancer screening services, and serves as its medical director. In 2008, Dr. Muldoon received the American Cancer Society's Star of Hope Award for his excellence in providing compassionate and skilled care for people facing cancer and for his contribution in the cancer fight.

Having previously served on the board of trustees for the Medical Center and St. Vincent's Health Services for nine years, Dr. Muldoon is currently serving on the board of St. Vincent's College. A past president of the Greater Bridgeport Medical Association, Dr. Muldoon is also a member of the Fairfield County Medical Association, the Connecticut State Medical Society, and the American Urological Association. He also has published in his field.

Dr. Muldoon is married with five children and resides in Fairfield.
