State Rep. Brenda Kupchick (R-Fairfield) is holding a Women's History Essay Contest in which all sixth-graders in Fairfield are invited to write a 300-word essay on the topic "How a Connecticut Woman made a Contribution to the State and/or Nation and How it Affects me."

The essay contest, in conjunction with Women's History Month, is sponsored by Fairfield County Bank and Pequot Library. A winner and runner-up will be chosen by each school. The first-place winners will be awarded a $100 savings bond and the second-place winners will be awarded a $50 savings bond.

Submissions will be accepted and judged by each school's administration based on form, style, research, grammar, and insight. A ceremony will be held to recognize the winners on Saturday, April 30, at Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave., Southport.

The deadline for submissions to each school is April 11.
