February may not be boating season on Long Island Sound, but that isn't stopping the Black Rock and Fayerweather yacht clubs from thinking of hoisting the sails.

The groups will host "A Guide to Better Sail Trim," a free seminar presented by John Savage of Hathaway's Sail Makers, at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Gaelic-American Club in Fairfield.

Savage, owner and head sail maker of Stamford-based Hathaway's, will bring a large-scale model of a sailboat that has many controls and moving sails. He will give a 90-minute presentation on all aspects of sail trim and boat handling, and will answer any question on rigging issues, sail care, racing, cruising, equipment and anything having to do with sailboats. Organizers say the presentation is suitable for racers and cruisers, big boat or small, and offers an opportunity to sharpen up sailing skills without boarding a boat.

The Gaelic American Club is on 76 Beach Road in Fairfield. RSVP to morourkesr@gmail.com.
