Grief counseling in Newtown; support fund created

NEWTOWN -- As the town struggles to overcome the shock and deal with the grief of the massacre of 20 school children and six adults, counseling is offered.

Counselors are available at Reed Intermediate School, 3 Trades Lane, until 7 p.m. tonight.

Danbury Hospital's crisis hotline is open. The number to call is 203-739-7007.

State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance said this morning a Crisis Intervention Team is available. The number to call is 203-270-4283.

Many throughout the community, state and nation are asking how to help.

A Sandy Hook School Support fund is established by the United Way of Western Connecticut with Newtown Savings Bank to provide help to the families.

Donations by check may be mailed to Sandy Hook School Support Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main St., Newtown CT 06470, or may be brought to any Newtown Savings Bank branch.
