NEWTOWN -- Chris Vadas, a Redding police officer, was off duty near his home in Sandy Hook when he heard about the shooting and rushed to the Sandy Hook firehouse Friday.

It around 10 a.m., shortly after the shooting, as Vadas took a 6-year-old boy from the arms of a state trooper and carried him into a waiting ambulance.

"His body was limp," said Vadas, momentarily shaken as he described the ordeal. " I don't know if he made it. I dont even know his name."

Vadas' own children had attended the school. One of their former teachers may be one of the six adults who were killed.
