FAIRFIELD — Providing a vehicle for people to honor and remember veterans who are close to them, and raising funds for a good cause, the Kiwanis Club of Fairfield created its first-ever Field of Valor this weekend on Jennings Park at the northwest corner of South Benson and Post Roads.

President Paul Giacalone said more than 110 flags were erected for display Saturday morning, with a ceremony held Sunday afternoon attended by town officials, police and fire personnel.

“The money we’re raising for this we’re donating to Homes for the Brave,” he said.

“What I’m hoping for is that this gets more attention,” he said, “and that next year we build on it.”
