A Halloween tradition in Fairfield returns this week as a spirited transformation of the Burr Homestead becomes the “Enchanted Castle” from Saturday to Oct. 31.

The week-long holiday event at the historic mansion, 739 Old Post Road, is sponsored again by the Bridgeport Hospital Auxiliary.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. weekdays. The castle is closed Monday.

The Enchanted Castle, featuring storybook-theme rooms and costumed characters, provides “a non-threatening, entertaining Halloween experience for children and adults,” according to publicity for the event.

This year’s rooms and themes include Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Candyland, Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Pirates of the Caribbean and Wizard of Oz.

Co-chaired by Shaun Amberg and Debbie Charles, both of Fairfield, this is the 22nd year for the Enchanted Castle. Proceeds support the programs of Bridgeport Hospital’s Ahlbin Rehabilitation Centers, including cancer therapy, women’s health, music therapy and Fit and Healthy Kids to reduce childhood obesity, as well as specialized equipment and scholarships.

School groups may schedule visits from 9 a.m. to noon from Oct. 27-30. For information, email info@enchantedcastle.org. Adults and students in the eighth grade and up can volunteer at the event, and businesses interested in underwriting the cost of the event by becoming sponsors should email info@enchantedcastle.org.

Admission to the Enchanted Castle is $5. For information, call 203-336-3600 or visit www.enchantedcastle.org.
