FAIRFIELD — Charged with driving under the influence for the third time since 2008, a College Park Drive man found himself being held on a $100,000 bond.

Joseph T. Forte, 30, was also charged with evading responsibility, with serious physical injury, and following too closely in connection with a June 25 accident on Round Hill Road.

Police said Forte rear-ended another car, hitting it with such force it flipped over. The driver of the car, a 63-year-old Worcester, Mass., woman, received a concussion and a cut to her elbow.

She had mistakenly gotten off Interstate 95, rather than pulling into the rest stop at Exit 22, and was turning her car around when it was struck.

According to a witness, Forte continued driving another 305 feet after the collision, as if he was trying to get away, police said. Both he and the other driver were taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport.

Forte, who was charged with a DUI by Fairfield police in 2008 and again in 2010, turned himself in on a warrant Monday morning.

Police said his blood alcohol content, which was tested at St. Vincent’s, was .14. The legal limit is .08.
