Selectman Cristin McCarthy Vahey and state Rep. Kim Fawcett, D-133, will host a community discussion on affordable housing and sites where it is proposed Thursday, Sept. 27, at Congregation Ahavath Achim, 1571 Stratfield Road.
The meeting is scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the synagogue, 1571 Stratfield Road.
One focus of the meeting, Fawcett said in a news release, will be developers' use of the state law governing appeals of affordable housing decisions. That law -- General Statute 8-30g -- can be used in certain circumstances to circumvent local zoning regulations.
In Fairfield, residents in the Homeland Street and Chatham Road areas have opposed projects proposed under the statute. The law applies to municipalities such as Fairfield, where less than 10 percent of housing is designated as affordable.
