A common dove, which apparently became wedged in the grill of a Fairfielder's car during a trip to New York City, survived the ride back to town and was later released into the suburban wild blue yonder.
A Ryegate Road resident called the town's animal control staff Sunday afternoon for assistance in helping to remove the bird from the car's grill. The family was alerted to the dove's predicament by their dog, according to the report.
With the help of firefighters using a spreader, the bird was released from the grill and it flew off.
The animal control staff said the bird may have been stuck in the car grill for several days.
