A 77-year-old woman was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport after a one-car accident Saturday on Black Rock Turnpike near Hemlock Road that she told police was caused when her car’s airbag deployed unexpectedly.
The woman’s car swerved off the road, and traveled 58 feet before hitting a rock and then became airborne. The car stopped when it hit a tree and rolled onto its roof.
She told police the airbag in her 2006 Lexus RSX triggered as she was driving, causing the accident. According to the report, she insisted she had not been distracted by anything, and has no medical conditions. Police said there was no indication of alcohol or drugs involved.
Her injuries were minor, police said.
