FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield University student, who took out the front porch of a house on Fairfield Beach Road when he crashed his car Super Bowl Sunday, was charged with driving under the influence.
Peter Jones, 27, of Summit, N.J., turned himself in on a warrant Monday in connection with the Feb. 5 accident that happened around 10:30 p.m.
Jones was also charged with reckless driving and not wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to the hospital after the accident, complaining of shoulder pain.
According to police, Jones was driving his pickup truck at a high rate of speed, headed back to his residence on Fairfield Beach Road, when he hit a hump in the road. He lost control of the truck, which went airborne and then hit a parked car when it landed. The truck continued on, hitting some rocks that took off the truck’s front wheels. The truck’s momentum, however, carried it into the front of a house, taking out the porch steps.
Jones was released on a promise to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on May 2.
