Art/Place, a nonprofit artist cooperative association, recently moved its gallery into a town-owned building at 70 Sanford St. that also houses the Fairfield Theatre Company and the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County.
The new gallery space, estimated at about 1,200 square feet, will share the same entrance with the alliance. The venue, former home of the Fairfield Arts Council, will be leased from the town on an annual basis, according to Art/Place officials.
Art/Place, closed since October 2011 after vacating its former downtown location on Unquowa Road, will hold the new space's inaugural exhibit, "Another Opening, Another Show," from Thursday, Sept. 6, through Tuesday, Oct. 30. A public reception for the display, marking the group's 30th year, will be held 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, and the gallery will be open noon to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
The anniversary will also be celebrated with a second Art/Place exhibit from Saturday, Sept. 8, through Thursday, Oct. 4, in Perkin Gallery in Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave. A public reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8.
Artists working in all media may submit work for jurying by Monday, Oct. 22. Applications are available from Sandra Meagher at sandrakm@mac.com. New members will exhibit in the Art/Place Annual Holiday Show in November and December.
