Police are investigating the attempted theft Thursday evening of a generator from the Carolton Convalescent Home, 400 Mill Plain Road.

Owner Carmen Tortora confronted the would-be thief before he was able to load the generator into his truck, a black Chevy Silverado, according to the report. Totora was able to supply a partial Connecticut registration number -- 988 -- for the truck's license plate. After being surprised in the act, the man jumped in the truck and fled southbound on Interstate 95.

The lock on the shed where the generator was stored had been cut, police said.
