Police are using a trail of empty beer cans to try to track down culprits responsible for $75,000 worth of damage to the golf course greens and golf carts at the Patterson Club on Cross Highway sometime between Monday night and early Tuesday.

The vandalism was reported Tuesday about 5:30 a.m.

According to the report, greens at three holes on the course were damaged by golf carts and five carts were driven into a pond. There were also tire marks found on every green and flags were broken. Police also said there were empty beer cans scattered around the golf course, as well as a trail of empty cans down Banks North Road to a house on Coventry Lane.

The incident remains under investigation.
