Hail to the sale.

The President's Day Book Sale at the Fairfield Public Library was getting plenty of salutes from the literary set Saturday as it opened for a week-long run at the main branch.

The crowd browsed for entertaining titles to keep them occupied indoors through the remaining weeks of winter.

Dee Skott, the book sale chairwoman, said, "About 2,000 books will be on the tables at any given time."

Several vintage books also were on offer, in addition to children's books sold for a "Buy 3, Get One Free" discount.

The sale's proceeds benefit the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library and are used to help the library provide extra programs and services that are outside the scope of the its annual operating budget.

Fairfield Public Library, corner of Old Post and Post roads, will continue hosting the President's Day Book Sale through Friday during regular library hours. The library, however, is closed Monday for the President's Day holiday.
