Police are investigating a report from Super Stop & Shop, 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff, that an employee was defrauding the store of its can and bottle returns.

According to the report last Friday, the employee would accept large bags of cans and bottles from customers and issue a receipt for redemption without counting the number of cans. He would then put the cans through the bottle machines, get receipts and cash them in. The employee allegedly collected $594 worth of can and bottle refunds.

The matter was discovered, store officials said, when they discovered more refunds for bottles and cans were paid out than were actually being returned.
