Skeeter A. Davis, 46, stole underwear from BJ's Wholesale Club, Black Rock Turnpike, on Thursday afternoon and then tried to hide from police in an empty movie theater, police said.

Davis, of Madison Avenue, Bridgeport, walked by a BJ's employee as he was leaving the store, who noticed large bulges under his jacket. Davis was told to stop, but fled on foot and was chased by the employee to the nearby movie theaters over the Bridgeport border.

When police arrived, a theater employee said Davis had gone into a theater where no movie was playing. Police found Davis, who denied stealing anything. However, $91 worth of stolen underwear was found under a seat in the theater, according to the report.

Davis was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a promise to appear Nov. 1 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
