The Connecticut Challenge is ready to take a stand for cancer survivors during its third annual Stand Up Paddle event Saturday off Fairfield's shoreline.

The paddleboard fundraiser will take place at Penfield Pavilion II, also known as the Jacky Durrell Pavilion, 401 Fairfield Beach Road. Registration will open at 8 a.m. and the race will start at 9:30, followed by a barbecue.

The race will have two divisions -- one for racers and one for recreational paddlers. There are three age categories for each of the men and women racers: 17 and under, 18 to 49, and 50 and over. There is a 3.5-mile and 6.5-mile distance for both racers and recreational riders.

The event, sanctioned by the World Paddle Association for the first time, raises funds for cancer survivorship programs throughout Connecticut, according to a Connecticut Challenge news release.
