An Adelaide Street resident took matters into his own hands early Saturday morning, capturing and detaining a man who he told police believe had broken into his car and possibly two others.

According to the report, the witness saw the suspect, later identified as Edwin Santos, 21, of State Street, Bridgeport, enter his unlocked car just after midnight Saturday morning. The resident walked outside, confronted the intruder and held him on the ground until officers arrived, police said.

Santos allegedly took a cell-phone charger and flashlight from the man's car, as well as a GPS unit from a car on Halley Avenue. Another car on Adelaide was ransacked, police said, and a TD Bank checkbook reported missing.

Santo was charged with three counts of third-degree burlary, and two counts of sixth-degree larceny. He was held on bonds totaling $1,000 and is scheduled to appear Dec. 27 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
