Car-wash math: Teens hope free scrubs net $2,000 for theater

Fairfield Teen Theatre has a deal for the drivers of dirty cars that's hard to beat -- if not impossible.
Theater members on Saturday, July 13, will wash any car for free between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the side parking lot of Fairfield Woods Middle School, 115 Fairfield Woods Road. And the more free washes the group does, the more money it will raise for upcoming productions.
Each participating theatre member has commissioned sponsors to pledge 50 cents for each car the group washes, the theatre said. So, the more free scrubs done, the more the sponsors will pay.
Donations from motorists getting their cars washed will be accepted, the theatre said.
The group said it hopes to wash 100 cars and raise $2,000.
Proceeds will benefit two stage shows later this summer, "Rent" and "Disney's Cinderella Kids."
Fairfield Teen Theatre is sponsored by the Fairfield Parks & Recreation Commission, but the teenagers have to raise about two-thirds of the cost of producing their shows. Rather than charging teens participation fees, organizers said, they want participants to work for the money by conducting the car wash, a pie sale and selling advertising in show programs
The theatre's Magic Box troupe will perform "Disney's Cinderella Kids" in the air-conditioned Fairfield Woods Middle School auditorium at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 21.
The theatre's Main Stage troupe will present "Rent, School Edition" in the air-conditioned Fairfield Woods Middle School auditorium at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2; Saturday, Aug. 3; Friday, Aug. 9, and Saturday Aug. 10. Matinees at 2 p.m. are scheduled Sunday, Aug. 4, and Sunday, Aug. 11.
