Bishop Frank J. Caggiano of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport will be the guest preacher Sunday at First Church Congregational, Fairfield’s oldest religious congregation.

Caggiano will speak at the 10:15 a.m. service, and the public is invited to attend. The church is at the corner of Beach and Old Post roads.

“It is a singular honor that Bishop Caggiano has accepted our invitation to preach at First Church,” the Rev. David Spollett, the church’s senior minister, said in announcing the appearance. “We are inspired by his ecumenical vision and welcome this vital spiritual leader, gifted preacher and dynamic, visionary leader to lead us in worship. We rejoice that Bishop Caggiano will bring the good news of God’s love to our congregation.”

Caggiano, who became bishop of the Bridgeport diocese in 2013, was ordained as a priest in 1987. In 2006, he became the auxiliary bishop of the the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. He has been appointed by Popes Benedict XVI and Francis as a catechist for World Youth Days in 2011 and 2013.
