Charities offer crafts instruction

Three charities that raise money through the sale of hand-made crafts will offer overviews of their programs and hands-on instruction during a program Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library.

The session begins at 11 a.m. at the branch, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road. The program is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Charities taking part are the Seamen's Church Institute, which knits and crochets gifts for mariners who are far from home during the holidays; the Mother Bear Project, which makes knit and crocheted bears for children in emerging nations who are affected by HIV or AIDS; and Project Linus, which makes blankets for needy children.

After the overview presentations, attendees may participate in two no-sew projects: making fleece scarves for the Bridgeport Rescue Mission and making a Project Linus blanket.
