Television journalist and interviewer Charlie Rose has canceled his planned appearance at Fairfield University to host Saturday’s 25th anniversary celebration of the university’s Quick Center for the Arts.

Rose instead will travel to Russia to interview President Vladimir Putin.

“Rose was very much looking forward to our celebration and expressed his disappointment to have to postpone the event,” Peter Van Heerden, director of the Quick Center for the Arts, said in a statement issued Wednesday. “We are working quickly behind the scenes to reschedule.”

Tickets purchased for Saturday’s program will remain valid for a new event date, according to the announcement.
