Police are investigating the reported theft of two checks from a Fairfield Woods Road woman receiving hospice care at her home.

Her daughter said two checks were taken from a checkbook in a bedroom dresser drawer at the woman's home, and on Saturday, a young woman tried to cash the two checks at a local bank on the same day.

First, police said, she went inside the bank and tried to cash a check for $485, telling the bank her patient had asked her to do so. When asked for identification, the woman left without cashing the check. But she then went to the drive-through window, this time trying to cash a $600 check.

Again asked for identification, the woman drove off.

Although there were no arrests as of Monday, the police investigation will include the hospice workers who have come to the home.
