FAIRFIELD — Proceeds of $125,000 raised by last year’s Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival were recently donated to the Norwalk Grassroots Tennis program.

The tennis program for city youngsters was chosen as the beneficiary of last year’s edition of the annual holiday-season event at the Burr Homestead, which since its founding in 1981, has raised more than $3.7 million for various charities.

Norwalk Grassroots Tennis is a nonprofit that strives to improve the “lives of children from low-income families through tennis, education, life skills and leadership programs,” organizers of the festival said when announcing the group’s selection last year.
