Church to hold talk on Lakota tribe

Anam Cara, Christian Center for Spiritual Life, will present a talk on "Red Road, Jesus Road: The Lakota Tribe and the Church: History, Culture and Spirituality" Wednesday, Nov. 14. It will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 4670 Congress St.
The Rev. Canon Peter Stebinger will discuss the church's work with the Sichangu Lakota People of South Dakota's Rosebud Indian Reservation, from his perspective as a regular visitor to the community, according to a release.
He will talk about Lakota spirituality, the church's role on the reservation, the Sichangu people's culture and Lakota hymnody, prayer and poverty.
He will also discuss the federal government's relationship to Native American people, the importance of generosity in the tribe and display several Lakota star quilts he received.
The suggested donation is $10 per person.
