Twelve local adults, profiled as “community heroes” by youngsters participating in a Pequot Library program, were recently saluted at a reception.

The group was honored at a “Meet Our Local Heroes from the Community” event, the culmination of a library program in which children selected people they wanted to write about who are “pillars of our community for decades and together reflect the diverse canvas of talents, interests, and accomplishments of those in our midst,” accordin to library publicity for the event.

Two children — Keilan Rosow and Paris Carbone — won awards for their presentations.

Those honored include: David K. Sturges, Dr. Charles Hemenway Jr., Beatrice C. duPont, James Bradley, George Wiswell, Gwendolyn L. Ward, Michelle Amaranto, Elizabeth Sesselberg, Amy Scarella, Landon Storrs, James Biggs and Jane K. Dean.
