A 15-year-old took his father's car early Monday, crashed it and ran away, police said.

The driver and his passenger escaped injury in the one-car accident, which occurred shortly before 4 a.m. Monday on Szost Drive, Deputy Police Chief Chris Lyddy said.

The car struck a utility pole and also damaged a mailbox, police said. The teen got out of the car and ran to his house, on the same street, police said. He was charged with evading responsibility, operating without a license and failure to drive on the right, Lyddy said.

Speed was a factor in the crash, he said.
