Police are warning residents to be wary of people who come to their home offering to do yard or tree work.

On Tuesday, police said, a Davis Road resident was approached about 1 p.m. by a man who offered to do some yard work. While the elderly homeowner walked with the man to the backyard, an accomplice apparently entered the house and stole several thousand dollars worth of cash and jewelry, according to the report.

The suspect is described as white male, about 45 years old, with dark hair, dressed in blue jeans, a blue shirt and blue baseball cap. There was no description available for the second person involved in the scheme.

Sgt. Suzanne Lussier, a police spokeswoman, said residents should call police at 203-254-4800 if they are approached at home with unsolicited offers from people seeking to do work such as landscaping or driveway paving.
