A Bridgeport man, who allegedly paid for nearly a year's worth of cell phone bills with a Fairfielder's checking account, was charged Tuesday evening with fourth-degree larceny.

Andre Whaley, 24, of 130 Benson St., allegedly used $1,343 from a Flintlock Road resident's Fidelity checking account to pay for his Sprint phone bill, beginning last August.

The Flintlock Road resident told police in early April that no one in the family uses Sprint's cell phone service.

Whaley reportedly denied wrongdoing, telling police that his boyfriend had been paying for his phone bill since last summer.

But he turned himself in at Fairfield police headquarters around 10:25 p.m., and is scheduled to appear July 14 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
