A man and woman from Bridgeport face larceny charges after police said they stole more than $200 worth of clothing from Old Navy clothing store Monday. When stopped by police, another $2,339 worth of merchandise from other stores was also found in their car, according to the report.

The manager at Old Navy, 2215 Black Rock Turnpike, called police around 9 p.m. to report that a couple that had taken merchandise and fled the store without paying. They left in a white Pontiac with front-end damage that was stopped by police at Kings Highway East.

Inside the car were 19 pieces of clothing from Old Navy, totaling $244 in value, police said. Also in the car were 55 articles of clothing from Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle and H&M, and a large bag with a silver lining commonly used by shoplifters to avoid detection by store sensors.

Alexandra Mayams, 22, of Trumbull Avenue, and Victor N. Diaz, 22, of Ridge Brook Drive, were charged with sixth-degree larceny in connection with the Old Navy theft. They are also both charged with fourth-degree larceny by possession and possession of a shoplifting device for the other items in the car.

Mayams was also charged on a warrant from Stratford police for violation of probation, and released on a warrant to Farmington police. Diaz was turned over to Milford police on an outstanding warrant issued by that department.

Both are scheduled to appear Oct. 9 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
