A driver who police said struck two snowbanks and a utility pole Saturday night was charged with driving under the influence.
Kieran T. Rush, 55, was driving down Jackman Avenue, where he lives, around 8 p.m. Saturday when his car went off the road and hit a telephone pole, according to the report. Then, police said, Rush backed up and continued driving down the street and hit a snow bank. At that point, Rush allegedly backed up again, drove down to Edgewood Place, where he ran into yet another snow bank. This time, however, his car got stuck in the snow.
When officers arrived, firefighters already on the scene told them Rush had been driving the vehicle that hit the telephone pole on Jackman Avenue. Rush said he had been drinking at the 19th Hole restaurant on Brooklawn Avenue and remembered striking the phone pole, according to the report. However, he said didn't think he'd damaged the pole, so he drove away.
His car had heavy front-end damage caused by the collisions, police said.
Rush also failed field sobriety tests, police said.
In addition to DUI, he was also charged with evading responsibility and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Rush was released on a $100 bond and is scheduled to appear Feb. 24 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
