A man was charged after police said he fought with his wife Saturday in the parking lot of Super Stop & Shop, 760 Villa Ave.

Fitho Mettellus, 45, of Old Town Road, Bridgeport, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and interfering with an emergency call in connection with the dispute, some of which police said was recorded by store surveillance cameras.

Mettellus' wife told police her husband punched her in the arm and pushed her out of the car. While that is not seen on the video recording, police said, it does show the couple standing by the car arguing, and Mettellus shoving his wife. He then took her cell phone and threw it on the ground, smashing it, police said. She said he grabbed the phone when she tried to call 911.

The wife is then seen walking toward the store, as her husband starts to drive away, before backing up, getting out of the vehicle, and picking up the pieces of the shattered phone, police said.

A passerby allowed the wife to use a phone to call police. Mettellus was stopped in the parking lot by officers.

He was released on a promise to have appeared Monday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
