Christopher Burr, 45, ripped the phone cord out at his Overlook Avenue home when his mother tried to call police when he confronted her Tuesday, police said.

Burr, who was allegedly intoxicated, began yelling at his mother, according to the report, and when she attempted to call police he pulled out the cord to disable the phone and also threatened to smash her cell phone when she said she would use it instead to call 911. His mother then left the house and was able to call police.

The day earlier, she told police, Burr had started a small grease fire in the basement.

He was charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with an emergency call.

Police said Burr is currently on probation in previous domestic violence arrests. He was held on a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to have appeared Wednesday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
