Shawn M. Amhurst, 25, of Crescent Street in Bridgeport, is facing charges after police said he walked out of Bob's Store, 889 Post Road, with unpaid merchandise Sunday afternoon.
Amhurst left the store wearing a pair of $50 Reebok sneakers, and ran across the parking lot, according to the report. He was stopped and detained across the street, and then taken into custody.
While at police headquarters, officers said they discovered Amhurst was wearing several pieces of Under Armor clothing, which also had not been paid for, and that he had given them a false name. Amhurt's real identity was discovered when police checked his fingerprint records. Total value of the merchandise was $268.
He was charged with sixth-degree larceny, criminal impersonation and interfering with an officer. Amhurst was released on a promise to appear Jan. 13 in Bridgeport Superior Court, and was turned over to New Haven police, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest on similar charges.
