A 19-year-old Shelton man jumped out of a slow-moving car on Interstate 95 in Fairfield and then damaged a bathroom at the nearby Cumberland Farms convenience store, 975 Kings Highway East, around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Avdi Rugova, of Fairmont Place, was apparently intoxicated when he left the moving car, according the report. He walked from the highway to Cumberland Farms, where police said he damaged the handicapped-access railing in the bathroom, as well as bathroom tiles. The damaged was estimated at $800.

When officers arrived, they said Rugova struggled with them and resisted arrest.

He was charged with breach of peace, second-degree criminal mischief and interfering with an officer. Rugova was held on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Jan. 15 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
