A 71-year-old Open Gate Lane resident who police said was found intoxicated and slumped over the wheel of his car in April, turned himself in at police headquarters Friday and was charged on a warrant with driving under the influence.
Douglas Prescott, was released on a $100 bond and is scheduled to appear June 27 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
The arrest comes after police received a report around 11 p.m. April 12 that a driver was slumped over the wheel of a car that had stopped on Flintlock Road. When officers arrived, the driver -- identified as Prescott -- woke up. There was extensive front-end damage to the car, police said, and the left front tire was blown out.
Police were unable to figure out what Prescott had struck, and because of his extreme intoxication, according to the report, he was taken to an area hospital.
