A Stamford man was charged on a warrant Friday with stealing $100,000 worth of jewelry from a former girlfriend's relative.
Brandon J. Young, 20, of Maryanne Lane in Stamford, turned himself in at Fairfield police headquarters on charges of third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny in connection with the Oct. 24 theft.
According to police, Young went to the Reef Road house of the ex-girlfriend's aunt and put the jewelry in a duffel bag. He pawned 89 pieces of the jewelry for $1,500 at a pawn shop in Stamford, police said.
Young later admitted to the aunt that he had stolen the jewelry and asked her not to press charges. However, police were contacted and they were able to recover all of the pawned items, according to the report. Another 20 pieces of stolen jewelry were returned via the office of Young's lawyer.
Police said Young is on probation for similar charges in Stamford. He was held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Feb. 13 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
