A Bridgeport man is accused of trying to steal boots Sunday afternoon at the Bob's Store, 889 Post Road -- an incident that triggered a brawl.
Dennis Cortina, 44, was charged with third-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, third-degree forgery, interfering, and criminal impersonation.
Cortina allegedly attempted to walk out of the store with a new pair of Timberland boots, valued at approximately $115, without paying. After a security officer attempted to stop him, a physical altercation ensued, police said.
A subsequent background check of Cortina at police headquarters allegedly revealed that he had originally given a false name (Kevin Cortina) to police. Further investigation revealed that Cortina had an active warrant out of Bridgeport for failing to register as a sex offender, and another warrant out of Shelton for violating probation.
Cortina was held on $50,000 bond, and was scheduled to appear Monday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
