David Ford, 51, of Bridgeport, was charged at about noon Tuesday after an alleged shoplifting incident at the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff.

Police said security personnel at the store reportedly saw Ford try to leave the premises with more than $400 in merchandise -- mostly DVDs -- stuffed in a clear plastic Stop & Shop bag.

Ford was charged with sixth-degree larceny, and released on a written promise to appear Oct. 18 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
