According to the report, employees at the Cross Highway country club noticed Denniston take a bag of clubs -- valued at $3,000 -- from a golf cart and walk quickly toward the parking lot. When they yelled at him to stop, he dropped the bag and ran toward the nearby Merritt Parkway, police said. The employees chased him and detained Denniston near Redding Road until officers arrived.
After Denniston was taken into custody, police said they found two pipes and a prescription pill in his possession.
Denniston was charged with fourth-degree larceny, criminal attempt to commit fourth-degree larceny, possession of a prescription not in the original container and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was held on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear June 27 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
