A Trumbull man was charged with violating a criminal restraining order Monday night after police said that he called his former girlfriend multiple times and then sat outside her house because, according to the report, he wanted to take her to dinner.

Gregg W. Gerarthy, 53, was found in his car in a Nelson Place driveway around 10 p.m., police said. Asked why he was in the driveway with the car lights off, Gerathy said he was waiting for his ex-girlfriend to leave her house so he could take her on a date. Under the restraining order, Gerathy is not allowed to have contact of any kind with the woman. Police said he made multiple phone calls to her throughout the day.

Gerathy, who lives on Shelton Road in Trumbull, was held on a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to have appeared Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
