A Stratford man, stopped Tuesday for driving 64 mph in a 35-mph zone, also faces charges of having two knives in his car, police said.
Joel Guzman-Guzman, 39, of Gem Avenue in Stratford, was stopped by police conducting radar enforcement on Park Avenue about 2 p.m. Tuesday. The officer noticed a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the car, according to the report, although Guzman-Guzman told the officer he did not smoke marijuana and that the car belonged to a relative.
Guzman-Guzman was ordered to get out of the car and asked if there was anything dangerous or illegal in the car, police said, and he said there was not. Police, however, said a large knife was found under the driver-side floorboard and another knife was found in the storage compartment on the driver's door. Guzman-Guzman is on probation and is not allowed to possess any weapons, police said.
He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of having weapons in a motor vehicle and issued a misdemeanor summons for speeding. He was released on a promise to appear March 7 in Bridgeport Superior Court on the weapons charge and March 10 for the speeding ticket. His probation officer was also notified.
